It is such a shame for me to admit missing out on such an amazing album as Delorean’s 2010 release Subiza. This electronic outfit combines ravey synth rhythms, tropical psychedelia and pop structure.
Hailing from Zarautz, Spain, Delorean was formed in 2000, releasing three albums before gaining success worldwide. Named after the iconic time machine of Back To The Future, Delorean fuses island beats, electronic synth rhythms that stem from a genre known as Balearic beat, a popular form of dance/ rave music hailing from Ibiza in the late 80’s. This infectious sound helped carry Delorean to success after remixing bands like The xx, Cold Cave and Franz Ferdinad. Subiza takes all Delorean’s success and molds it into an amazing dance-pop album. Echoing vocals through waves of synth and samples are the perfect balance of pop and electronica with it’s own unique spin. My personal favourites from Subiza would have to be Grow, and Stay Close.
